Alternative Grounds for Divorce

While 12-month separation is most common, divorce can also be granted on these grounds:

Adultery

If your spouse committed adultery and you haven't condoned it. Cannot be used for same-sex affairs.

Mental Cruelty

Treatment so cruel that living together is intolerable. Requires evidence of impact on mental health.

Physical Cruelty

Physical abuse making cohabitation unsafe. Often combined with separation ground.
