About Section 60I Certificates

Under the Family Law Act, before filing most parenting applications, you must have a certificate from a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (s60I certificate). There are five types:

  • Agreement reached - FDR was successful
  • Genuine effort - Both parties made genuine effort but no agreement
  • Other party didn't make genuine effort - One party tried, other didn't
  • FDR not appropriate - Exemption applies (e.g., family violence)
  • Party refused or failed to attend - Other party wouldn't participate
